Joanna Hornets Join the Blue Ridge League, Bringing Over a Century of Baseball Tradition into a Bold New Era

JOANNA, S.C. — The crack of the bat will echo once again through one of the South’s most storied baseball towns as the Joanna Hornets officially join the Blue Ridge League, marking a powerful union of historic tradition and ambitious future.

The Blue Ridge League represents the coming together of several top summer collegiate baseball programs with proud histories, elite facilities, and a shared commitment to excellence on and off the field. Positioned in the talent-rich Charlotte metropolitan market, the league also boasts strong, competitive programs throughout North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad, Virginia, West Virginia, and now the Upstate of South Carolina, creating one of the premier summer collegiate circuits in the country.

A League Defined by Elite Competition and Iconic Ballparks

Blue Ridge League teams include the Carolina Disco Turkeys, Marion Hungry Mothers, Queen City Corndogs, Uwharrie Wampus Cats, Davie Crocketts, and the West Virginia Miners.

Players and fans alike will experience some of the finest facilities in summer collegiate baseball, including:

  • Couch Ballpark at Wake Forest University (Carolina Disco Turkeys)
  • Hurricanes Stadium, former home of the Marion Mets (Marion Hungry Mothers)
  • Stick Williams Dream Fields at Queens University (Queen City Corndogs)
  • Don Montgomery Park (Uwharrie Wampus Cats)
  • Mando Field at Rich Park (Davie Crocketts)
  • All-turf Linda K. Epling Stadium (West Virginia Miners)
  • Historic Joanna Stadium (Joanna Hornets)

These venues, paired with some of the most passionate fanbases anywhere in the country, create a summer atmosphere where excitement can be felt from first pitch to final out.

Joanna Hornets: A Return More Than a Century in the Making

For the Joanna Hornets, this moment represents far more than a league announcement — it is the continuation of a legacy.

Deeply rooted in South Carolina’s historic textile leagues, Joanna baseball dates back to 1915, when the first recorded pitch was thrown in the mill village. Historic Joanna Stadium, originally built in 1920 and currently being revitalized, will once again stand ready to host the next generation of elite collegiate talent.

With a rich heritage, a renovated historic ballpark, and a league defined by elite competition and community pride, the Joanna Hornets’ arrival in the Blue Ridge League signals a new chapter — one where tradition meets tomorrow, and summer nights in Joanna are once again filled with baseball.

Baseball returns. Tradition rises. The Hornets take flight in the Blue Ridge League.
